Job overview

We are looking for a skilled, creative video editor for a YouTube channel focused on real police bodycam footage, high-intensity encounters, unusual arrests, pursuits, and compelling law enforcement incidents.

Our goal is to transform raw police footage into engaging, professionally edited videos that keep viewers watching from beginning to end.

Editing Style Reference: Midwest Safety (YouTube)

Please review videos from the YouTube channel Midwest Safety before applying.

We are looking for a similar standard of editing, particularly:

  • Strong opening hooks: Capture attention within the first 15–30 seconds using the most compelling moments of the incident.
  • Excellent pacing: Remove unnecessary downtime, repetitive dialogue, uneventful driving, and lengthy pauses without sacrificing important context.
  • Compelling storytelling: Present events in a logical, engaging sequence that builds curiosity and anticipation.
  • Clean, professional editing: Use effective cuts, strategic zoom-ins, camera transitions, and well-timed visual emphasis.
  • Clear audio and subtitles: Make police dialogue, suspect interactions, and radio communications easy to follow.
  • Informative on-screen context: Introduce relevant background information, incident details, and case outcomes when supported by reliable sources.

We want the same level of viewer engagement and professionalism while developing our own recognizable channel identity.

What You Will Do

1. Transform Raw Bodycam Footage into Engaging Videos

  • Edit raw police bodycam and dashcam recordings into compelling 15–25-minute YouTube videos, depending on the available footage.
  • Identify the most interesting moments and structure the video around them.
  • Eliminate unnecessary footage while preserving important dialogue and events.
  • Create strong introductions, smooth transitions, and satisfying conclusions.

2. Build Suspense and Maintain Viewer Retention

  • Use strategic cuts, camera zooms, subtle sound effects, and music where appropriate.
  • Build anticipation around pursuits, confrontations, escapes, arrests, and unexpected developments.
  • Maintain natural tension without excessive effects or misleading editing.

3. Professional Audio Editing

  • Improve unclear dialogue where technically possible.
  • Balance police radios, dispatch communications, environmental sounds, and conversations.
  • Reduce distracting background noise.
  • Incorporate subtle background music and sound design without overpowering the original footage.

4. Subtitles, Graphics & Context

  • Add accurate, easy-to-read subtitles during important conversations.
  • Highlight key statements and relevant details.
  • Incorporate professional text overlays, timelines, maps, or case information where useful.
  • Clearly distinguish verified facts from allegations or disputed claims.

5. YouTube Compliance & Quality Control

  • Apply appropriate blurring to sensitive footage, personal information, minors, and graphic content.
  • Understand YouTube's advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
  • Avoid unnecessary graphic imagery, misleading effects, and sensationalized representations.
  • Deliver polished videos ready for YouTube publication.

Requirements

  • Proven experience editing long-form YouTube videos, preferably police bodycam, true crime, or investigative content.
  • Strong understanding of YouTube audience retention and storytelling.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable professional editing software.
  • Excellent English comprehension, including fast conversations, accents, police terminology, and difficult audio.
  • Strong audio editing, captioning, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and factual accuracy.

Project Details

  • Video length: Approximately 15–25 minutes, depending on the incident.
  • Content provided: Original bodycam/dashcam footage and available case information.
  • Work: Ongoing opportunities for the right editor.
  • Compensation: Please provide your rate per completed video.
  • Turnaround: Please indicate your typical delivery time.
