Role Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Steel Estimator to support their growing estimating workload.
The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience within steel fabrication, structural or miscellaneous steel, metal fabrication, construction, or manufacturing. This person should be comfortable reading technical drawings, performing quantity takeoffs, understanding fabrication requirements, and developing accurate estimates.
Our client uses Tekla Structures as part of their estimating workflow. Candidates with hands-on Tekla experience are highly valued, while those with basic knowledge of Tekla and a strong estimating background are also welcome. The ideal candidate is technically capable, adaptable, and comfortable learning the client's specific systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Review construction, structural, fabrication, and related project drawings and specifications.
Prepare accurate estimates and quantity takeoffs.
Interpret project requirements and determine quantities, materials, and other information needed for estimating.
Support estimating for structural and miscellaneous steel projects.
Review drawings for missing information, discrepancies, or areas requiring clarification.
Understand project scope and identify factors that may impact pricing or fabrication.
Organize and maintain accurate estimating information and project documentation.
Work within the client's estimating systems and processes, including Tekla Structures.
Communicate questions, discrepancies, and potential issues proactively.
Collaborate with the client's team to meet estimating deadlines and project requirements.
Manage multiple estimating assignments while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Qualifications
Strong professional experience in estimating.
Relevant experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, miscellaneous steel, metal fabrication, construction, or manufacturing-related estimating.
Strong quantity takeoff skills.
Ability to accurately read and interpret construction and fabrication drawings.
Good understanding of manufacturing and/or fabrication processes.
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Technically savvy and comfortable working with specialized estimating and modeling software.
Hands-on experience or basic working knowledge of Tekla Structures is welcomed.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
Available for a dedicated full-time position.
Preferred Experience
Miscellaneous steel estimating experience.
Structural steel or steel fabrication experience.
Manufacturing-related estimating experience.
Hands-on experience with Tekla Structures.
Experience supporting U.S.-based fabrication, manufacturing, or construction projects.
What Success Looks Like
You can take a set of project drawings, understand the scope of work, perform accurate takeoffs, and develop reliable estimating information.
You identify discrepancies early, ask the right questions when information is unclear, and consistently produce accurate work the team can rely on.
You bring strong estimating fundamentals, technical adaptability, and the ability to become proficient in the client's Tekla-based estimating workflow as you learn their specific processes.
