Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Data Support Engineer to help maintain the accuracy, reliability, and performance of a client’s reporting and analytics environment.
This is a hands-on, SQL-focused position combining data validation, quality monitoring, troubleshooting, and technical support. You’ll work with both technical teams and end users to investigate data concerns and ensure issues are resolved properly.
Position Details:
Work Type: Independent Contractor
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Hours: 8:00 PM–5:00 AM Philippine Time
Schedule Alignment: US Eastern Time
Key Skills:
- SQL Query Development
- SQL Data Validation & Quality Assurance
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute SQL queries in Amazon Redshift to check data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Perform regular data-quality checks and prepare reports on overall data health.
- Monitor incoming support requests, investigate issues, and resolve tickets within established procedures.
- Compare information across source systems, the data warehouse, and reporting platforms such as Power BI.
- Escalate more complex technical problems to the appropriate onshore engineering team.
- Monitor data pipelines and quality alerts and take appropriate action when issues occur.
- Record troubleshooting results, solutions, and recurring processes in detailed runbooks.
- Communicate clearly with end users, including executive-level stakeholders, when questions or concerns arise about data or reports.
- Investigate disputed data carefully and explain findings in a professional and easy-to-understand manner.
Required Qualifications:
-At least 2 years of experience in data support, data analysis, QA, or data engineering.
- Strong SQL abilities, including joins, aggregations, subqueries, and window functions.
- Practical knowledge of data validation and data-quality processes.
- Experience working with cloud-based data warehouses.
- Amazon Redshift experience is strongly preferred, while Snowflake, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse experience is also considered.
- Comfortable managing a support-ticket queue and communicating professionally in written and spoken English.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Able to manage multiple issues while maintaining accuracy and organization.
- Confident communicating with senior or executive-level users who may challenge the accuracy of reports or data.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, and S3.
- Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence platforms.
- Knowledge of ticketing systems such as Jira, ServiceNow, or Zendesk.
- Basic Python or scripting experience for data-related automation.
Who Will Succeed in This Role:
The ideal candidate is analytical, patient, and highly detail-oriented. You should enjoy investigating data issues, identifying the root cause of problems, and providing clear explanations rather than simply closing tickets.
Strong SQL skills are essential, but the ability to communicate confidently with both technical teams and business users is equally important.
